Empowering Frontline Healthcare: MCH Clerks Trained on DHIS2 ANC Tracker Under the ENABLE Project

On April 6–7, 2026, HISP Ethiopia successfully conducted a targeted technical training session for Maternal and Child Health (MCH) clerks at the Jimma Higher 2 Health Center.

The hands-on training focused on maximizing the clinical and administrative utility of the DHIS2-based Antenatal Care (ANC) Registry Tracker, a critical component of the ongoing ENABLE Project.

Strengthening Frontline Capabilities

The intensive two-day session was designed to equip MCH clerks with the practical digital workflows needed to manage maternal health data seamlessly. Participants gained comprehensive, hands-on skills to:

  • Digital Longitudinal Tracking: Seamlessly record, update, and manage ongoing ANC interactions with pregnant women over time.

  • Appointment Scheduling: Efficiently schedule and track upcoming prenatal appointments to ensure continuity of care.

  • Risk Mitigation: Utilize system protocols to identify key maternal risk factors early in the pregnancy cycle.

  • Clinical Decision Support: Document, track, and recommend essential laboratory tests and medical screenings.

  • Automated Community Outreach: Support expectant mothers throughout their pregnancy journey by configuring and deploying automated SMS reminders for upcoming clinic visits.

Advancing Patient-Centered Maternal Health

By transitioning from traditional paper registers to a live digital registry tracker, this training directly addresses the core pillars of information system strengthening: data quality, system maturity, and local capacity. Strengthening routine data entry at the facility level ensures that local health authorities and clinical teams can make timely, evidence-based decisions.

Ultimately, optimizing these digital workflows moves the regional health ecosystem closer to a highly responsive, timely, and truly patient-centered maternal health system.
